Healthy Adams County has had a busy year and I would like to say thank you to all of the people that have contributed to improving our physical, mental and social well-being this year. First and foremost I want to thank WellSpan, Gettysburg Hospital for supporting us financially since our beginnings as a community health partnership in 1996 and for working with us to improve the health of our community. I also want to thank the Gettysburg Hospital Foundation for supporting many of our programs and projects through grants. The Healthy Options Program, Fruit and Veggie Bucks Program, Car Seats and Crib for Kids Programs, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Workshops and several other wellness programs are able to continue each year with their support.

Healthy Adams County has over 15 taskforces/committees/coalitions working under our umbrella and each of those groups have dedicated chairs, co-chairs and member volunteers who plan, educate, raise funds to support breast cancer screenings and education, run food access programs, advocate for vulnerable populations, provide programs about mental health and wellness, involve local businesses and organizations in a suicide prevention campaign, lead walks, hikes, and free 5Ks, focus on tobacco prevention strategies, collect quantitative and qualitative data, and help others to feel better about themselves and hopefully lead a healthier and happier life while supporting them on their journeys to get there.

Kathy Gaskin is executive director of Healthy Adams County. She can be contacted at kgaskin@wellspan.org or (717) 337-4137.
