This year I find myself very excited for the Healthy Adams County Physical Fitness Task Force’s first two walks of the “Winter Hiking Series.” Our first two hikes are actually in late fall, a time past the beauty of the autumn leaf color change and usually before the winter wonderland scenery. This is a period of time that can be grey and dreary. But, for hiking it is just perfect.

Besides the usual benefits of hiking —fresh air and exercise with the calming, mood restoring benefits of being in forests — late fall hiking also offers added benefits:
