Summer's long days and energetic pace make it a perfect time of year to carve out a few hours for yourself and cultivate your inner artist at the Adams County Arts Council's Arts Education Center. The thrill of creative exploration can be experienced in a cool, comfortable environment with expert instruction in a welcoming environment. Here's what's coming up in July:

Heat Up Your Summer Cooking, Monday, July 9, 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Put some heat in your summer cooking by learning how to make shrimp tacos with jalapeno pineapple salsa, honey chipotle chicken tacos with raspberry lemonade margaritas.

$42 ($46 nonmember)

Yoga Nidra- Guided Meditation, Tuesday, July 10, 6-7:15 p.m. and/or Wednesday, Aug. 22, 10-11:15 a.m.

Yoga Nidra is said to be five times more restorative than regular sleep This practice starts with simple yoga postures followed by guided meditation while lying on the floor.

$15 ($20 nonmember)

Vinyasa Yoga, Wednesdays, July 11-Aug. 29, 5-6:15 p.m.

We will use flowing sequences and sun salutations to warm the body to reach new levels of flexibility, strength, balance and peace in our poses and practice. This class is suitable for beginner and intermediate yogis. $88 ($96 nonmember) $15/class

Beginning Pilates, Thur.'s July 12-Aug. 16, 5:30-6:30 p.m.

This form of exercise focuses on the "core", the belly back butt and thigh area. These exercises are done usually on the floor or a chair if needed. All levels of experience are welcome.

Hammered Silver Earrings, Tuesday, July 17, 6-8 p.m.

Learn how to cut your sterling metal pieces into shapes you'd like to wear. Your finished earrings will look fabulous and uniquely yours. Wear them home. $40 (member $36)

Zen Art Paint Night: Lotus Theme, Thursday, July 19, 6-8 p.m.

Paint your very own beautiful flower to create a tranquil spot in your home or office. Step by step instructions and personalized attention make this a perfect class for any skill level. $36

The Art of Composition Will Make Your Next Watercolor Even Better. Saturday, July 21, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Award winning artist Steve Bleinberger shares his thoughts on how important good composition is toward creating a successful painting and will guide students with personalized critiques, tips and WC instruction. $65 ($72 nonmember)

Beginning Oil Painting, Tuesdays, July 24-Aug. 14, 6-8 p.m.

Here's a fun intro to the joy of painting in oils and your chance to work with and learn about traditional and nontraditional methods, techniques and tools. $90 ($100 nonmember)

Flower Painting in a Day, Saturday, July 28, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Spend a day indoors capturing the permanent beauty of the outdoors. Award winning painter/instructor, Marti Yeager, will teach you how to draw and paint your favorite bloom.

$65 ($75 nonmember)

Stained Glass Business Card/Cell Phone Holder, Saturday, July 28, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is a great introduction to stained glass. Even beginners can create this project. Simply cut the glass and solder it together. Customize to your look - sophisticated and elegant or funky and fun. See the samples at the front desk. $50 ($55 nonmember)
