Susan Naugle has been serving the public for many years. Last evening, she was recognized by Gettysburg Borough for her 12 years of service on borough council, and most recently her term as Gettysburg Borough Council president.
We chatted recently about her time in Gettysburg, previous councils she has served on, where the borough may be down the road, and what’s in Susan’s future. Susan, like many others, is a Gettysburg transplant. Born and raised in Newville, Cumberland County she arrived in Gettysburg in 1997. She had been working for the Department of Public Welfare in Harrisburg when she had the opportunity to become Director of the Adams County Assistance Office. She would remain in that position until she retired in 2004. Her husband, Pat, is also from Cumberland County. The two were married in 1999. Susan tells me she always had good working relationship in the community because of her work at the assistance office. She told me one of her goals upon reaching retirement was to bicycle across country. She and pat did just that in 2004, leaving in June and returning home in August; a trip that took them some 4000 miles.
