The Upper Adams Canner Funds 2019-2020 Classroom Grants awardees were recently announced at the the school district’s Staff Retirement and Recognition Program.

Canner Funds Classroom Grants allow teachers to provide programs and initiatives that go beyond what can be funded through the basic operating budget. Grants totaling $10,100 were awarded to teachers for a variety of activities.

During the 2018-2019 school year, Canner Funds Classroom Grants provided funds for the Biglerville High School musical, a field trip to a chemical reactor for chemistry students, wireless microphones for Bendersville Elementary School, dictionaries and thesauri for Arendtsville Elementary School fourth grade students, math learning center materials for thrid grade students at Biglerville Elementary School, and ukuleles for use in elementary school music classes.

This year’s grants will provide materials, equipment and opportunities for students during the 2019-2020 school year, including:

cardio bikes and advanced placement art projects for Biglerville High School students;

support to allow Upper Adams Middle School students to prepare for and attend the Adams County Envirothon;

support for Culture Day activities at the district’s three elementary schools;

science kits for Bendersville Elementary School

health and nutrition programs for students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades; and support for the Sole Sisters program.

Canner Funds was established in 2010 as a tangible way for alumni, parents, community members, teachers, businesses, and friends to support the students of the Upper Adams School District. Since its inception, the fund has grown to over $750,000.

Contributions to Canner Funds can be made by sending a check payable to Adams County Community Foundation to 25 S. Fourth St., Gettysburg, PA 17325. Enter “Canner Funds” on the memo line.
