The former Saint Francis Xavier Roman Catholic Church convent has sat vacant for more than a decade as the county figured out what to do with the property it purchased as part of a larger land acquisition.

Tuesday, dozens of people crammed into a room formerly used as a chapel in the West High Street, Gettysburg, property to mark what Pastor Mike Allwein of Saint James Lutheran Church dubbed “a beacon of hope and wholeness.”
