Protest on Lincoln Square peaceful

Demonstrators display signs during a two-hour Black Lives Matter protest Friday evening in Gettysburg. In a change from three recent protests on Lincoln Square, the borough marked authorized protest areas with barriers, barrels, and tape. Dozens of protesters chanted in those zones and also processed around the square with signs. There were a couple tense moments related to police efforts to keep walkways and crosswalks clear, but no arrests occurred. The borough’s attorney and police chief conferred onsite. The group, calling itself Save Our Peoples, obtained a borough permit for the event. Unlike three weeks ago, no armed protesters were seen. At least one flag favoring President Donald Trump was on display. Follow-up coverage is planned in Monday’s edition.
