D-Day commemoration set for Thursday on Lincoln Square

The Gettysburg World War II Commission met Tuesday to finalize plans for Thursday’s 75th Anniversary Commemoration of D-Day. The event will begin at 4:45 p.m. on the southwest quadrant of Lincoln Square, in front of Open Minds. The 30-minute program will begin at 5 p.m. and include a keynote address by Carol Hegeman, executive director of the Eisenhower Society. About a dozen World War II veterans are expected to attend. Commission members are, from left: Gettysburg Times Managing Editor Alex J. Hayes, Destination Gettysburg President Norris Flowers, former Pennsylvania Rep. Ken Cole, Hegeman, Gettysburg Borough Mayor Ted Streeter, Gettysburg Borough Councilman Charles Strauss, and former Gettysburg Borough Councilman Bill Monahan.
