Michael Piatak Jr.

Michael Piatak Jr. 64, of Fairfield, died Friday evening, Sept. 19, 2014 at the York Hospital. Born Feb. 10, 1950 in Carbondale, Pa., he was the son of the late Michael and Anna (Mondak) Piatak Sr. He was the husband of Ann (Tiedemann) Piatak of Fairfield, to whom he was married to for 22 years.

Mr. Piatak was a member of Incarnation United Church of Christ in Emmitsburg, Md. He worked as a senior scientist at Leidos Frederick Inc. He was a graduate of Penn State University and earned his PhD from Yale University. He was a member of the Adams County Shrine Club as well as the Good Samaritan Lodge in Gettysburg, where he served as past president and secretary for a number of years.

In addition to his wife, Mike is survived by his three children, Kirsten Ann Piatak, Michael G. Piatak, Louesa Anna Piatak, all at home; two brothers, David M. Piatak and his wife Doris, of Prescott, Ariz., John J. Piatak and his wife Janice, of Clearwater, Fla., and a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2014 at the Incarnation United Church of Christ, 124 W. Main St., Emmitsburg, Md., with Rev. Katie Penick officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of the service Wednesday afternoon at the church. Family suggest memorial contributions be made to a charity yet to be set up for his son Michael, or to research Michael was involved with information for donations at www.projectinform.org.
