Editor, Gettysburg Times,
I ran across a quote the other day that I believe truly epitomizes the status of the Republican Party. In the words of the late Frank Oppenheimer (the American particle physicist) he said: “the worst thing a SOB can do is turn you into a SOB.”
The Republicans’ man in the White House, Mr. Trump, the most flawed individual ever to serve as president, has, like a lethal virus, corrupted his party and it’s followers into imitations of himself. Instead of a party aiming for respectability and honor it has devolved into the lowest common denominator. It now celebrates the base attributes of a 10-year-old bully as its highest achievement. Poor souls.
I am reminded of those inspirational words of Michelle Obama, “when they go low, we go high.” You can call me a snowflake if you want, but at least I, and about 60 percent of the American public, haven’t yet succumbed to the childish antics of a schoolyard hooligan. Let’s hope we can hold on to the inspirational spirit of our founding fathers and bring back their lofty vision once this childish immature president leaves the White House for a stay at yet another, less opulent, federal housing facility.
