Green Gathering success
Editor, Gettysburg Times,
Thank you, Gettysburg!
The 7th Annual Gettysburg Green Gathering held on June 1, 2019 was our biggest yet and the Board of Directors would like to extend a huge thank you to the community and our sponsors for their participation and support.
We would also like to thank the Gettysburg Times for featuring our event on the front page of last Monday’s paper and the community members and organizations that participate both in front of and behind the scenes to make our event possible.
While the article mentioned co-chairs Matt Crowner and myself, it did not mention our hard-working Board of Directors- John Maciolek, Ellen Dayhoff, Philip Letendre and Rick Crouse. Our board works hard all year long to plan and coordinate this and other events that would not be possible without them; they donate their time and money to support our cause and I am sincerely grateful for their commitment, it is truly a group effort.
As mentioned in the article, we do support and participate with other local “environmentally minded” organizations but our goal is actually to build a scholarship fund for local students seeking to further their education in environmental studies. This year we were able to present two such scholarships in the amount of $1000.00 each. The recipients were Bailey Hoffman and Samantha Schulteis. The Green Gathering was given a generous donation of $1000 by an anonymous donor when we mentioned to her we were having a difficult time choosing between these two candidates!
The day was filled with environmental education, entertainment, face painting, vendor booths (some of whom donated their profits for the day to support environmental causes), delicious food and most importantly a sense of community coming together.
Again, thank you Gettysburg, we are truly grateful and humbled by your support and hope to see you next year on June 6, 2020.
