We are watching other states suffer a tremendous surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths after either re-opening too quickly without ongoing protective measures or not having implemented stringent measures earlier. This shows that we need to continue to protect our families and communities. Gettysburg and Adams County will likely be a magnet for people within driving distance who desperately want to get out and about after staying at home all spring.

We welcome visitors, as they are the lifeblood of our local economy, and we enjoy sharing our unique history with them. As we welcome them, we need to protect ourselves from infections they may bring with them, and we need to assure they are protected during their visits.

Marcia Wilson is the chair of the Adams County Democratic Committee.
