Recalling 9-11, all of it

I do not remember every detail about the day, but the important points are burned indelibly into my history.

Like the day John F. Kennedy was shot, when we were called to assembly in the high school gym, and some of us cried. Without knowing why, exactly, we were aware it was significant. We took our cue from the adults, who clearly were agitated, and when you’re a kid - even one on the cusp of adulthood and trying hard to pretend you’ve crossed over - of one thing you are absolutely certain: when the adults are less than confident that all is well, it’s not.
