In light of the recent Minneapolis police incident, the ensuing riots and the peaceful (thank you!) demonstration on the square last Friday, I think it’s appropriate to review for borough residents the measures taken by the Gettysburg Police Department to minimize the probability of a Minneapolis type incident occurring in Gettysburg.

The first is the use of enhanced background investigations. I understand that some of Friday’s protestors carried placards containing the image of a former Gettysburg Police Department officer.

Ted Streeter is mayor of the Borough of Gettysburg.
