On a windy, brisk day Saturday, with the course sloppy from a night’s worth of rain, the PIAA State Cross Country Championships took place at the Parkview Course adjacent to the Giant Center in Hershey.

For the first time ever, the Fairfield boys competed as a team by virtue of their District 3, Class A championship last week. The Green Knights ran admirably, placing 11th out of 18 qualified teams. Jenkintown, from the suburban Philadelphia area, easily won the team title by placing its top five runners in the top 25. All earned state medals for their top 25 finishes, and they were led by Jack Miller, who cruised the course in 16:33, which was 17 seconds ahead of second place Andrew Healey of Holy Cross. The duo had been tied at two miles before Miller took off on his own for the victory.
