Gettysburg’s Austin Heiser stood alone on the Berks Catholic football field, fighting back his emotions while watching his teammates retreat toward the locker room.

Like most of his classmates, visions of the last three years whirled through his head after a 14-7 loss to Berks Catholic in the District 3 Class 4A quarterfinals Friday. But for Heiser, who moved to Gettysburg when father Matt Heiser took over as head coach in 2012, memories on the Warriors’ sidelines began much earlier.
