SENSATIONAL SOPHOMORE — Delone Catholic sophomore Giana Hoddinott was named the YAIAA-3 Player of the Year by the league coaches. Hoddinott was one of 13 Times Area underclassmen to earn all-league honors.

With 13 of the 20 local players who earned all-star recognition by the YAIAA coaches being underclassmen, the future of girls’ basketball in the Times Area is in good hands.

Delone Catholic led the way locally with all five of its starters honored by league coaches, who were permitted to nominate their own players but not vote for them. Sophomore Giana Hoddinott was at the head of the pack as she was selected as the player of the year in Division 3. Hoddinott, part of a sensational sophomore group of Squirettes, emerged as a scoring threat from anywhere on the floor. She averaged just under 14 points per game, second-most among Times Area players.
