TOUGH STUFF — Biglerville senior Hailey Slusser (right) battles Fairfield’s Annabel Anderson during a YAIAA game earlier this season. The Canners have won 9 of their last 10 games as they head into Saturday’s District 3 Class 2A quarterfinal match at Trinity.

With half of its season already gone, the Biglerville girls’ soccer team found itself mired in a place it never imagined: The edge of the abyss.

Despite a talent-laden roster featuring 14 seniors and some exceptional underclassmen, the Canners were sporting a pedestrian record of 4-4-1. They had surrendered 21 goals in those four defeats, showing little of the promise that preceded what was expected to be a memorable campaign in Apple Town.
