On Nov. 3, Americans will vote for candidates who will help us in our time of suffering.

We pray for those sick with COVID-19, now horrifyingly including even our president, and for those who have lost their jobs. As we think about what keeps us safe, we need to vote smart on all issues of physical and financial safety. The annual deaths of 40,000 of our fellow Americans killed by gun violence, dwarfed though they are in 2020 by coronavirus deaths, remain a deadly toll each year.

Judy Young is a retired United Methodist pastor and a member of Gettysburg for Gun Sense.
