Gettysburg’s history makes it one of the most special places to mark Memorial Day, the commander of the USS Gettysburg told a crowd gathered at Evergreen Cemetery Monday.

Capt. Megan Thomas, who has commanded the ship since March, told “fellow grateful Americans” she was privileged to spend the day in the borough with her family and crew. The ceremony was hosted by VFW Post 15, Gettysburg, under the leadership of Commander Bill Hewitt.
