Vote your conscience
Editor, Gettysburg Times,
Let me introduce myself, I am Barb Sonafelt, I am running for the GASD board. With all the slinging of the “facts”, I feel I need to bring some issues of concern to the public. The word transparency is being thrown around a lot. So, let’s talk about what “actual” transparency means in this primary.
Take a look at the incumbents, Al Moyer, Tim Seigman and Mike Dickerson. Three extremely educated and intelligent people. They are aware of the concerns and work hard to provide the best education within the law and funds available. Do not be fooled when others say they don’t. They are citizens with members of their families in the school district. They don’t run for these seats lightly. They know what is required of them and do the job admirably.
Let’s look at the ballot, so, we can clear up some inconsistencies in information there.
On the Democratic ballot in order: Michael Dickerson, Elizabeth A. Blanc, Tim Seigman, Alice Broadway, Rachell Stull, Al Moyer and me, Barbara A. Sonafelt.
On the Republican ballot in order: Martha O’Bryant, Alice Broadway, (me) Barbara A. Sonafelt, Tim Seigman, Al Moyer, Cynthia E. Ayers Michael Dickerson, and Elizabeth A. Blanc.
All candidates originally cross filed. And you may vote for five.
Three were subsequentially removed by the courts. Amy Beth Hodges, a sitting board member, was removed by the from the Republican ballot because her nomination petition and subsequent paperwork included intentional defects to mislead voters.
Amy Beth Hodges, Cynthia E. Ayers, and Martha O’Bryant were removed by the courts from the Democratic ballot for not having required number of valid signatures on their filing petitions.
These three candidates have also been spending oodles of money to say they are promoting “transparency” in this election. They have held “Private Invite” events only.
In order to vote with your conscience, you must have all the facts. Plain and simple. I urge you to dig deeper, look at the ads, talk to others, research the candidates and then make an informed decision when you vote. Your community and the children need that and they need you!
Barbara A. Sonafelt,
Gettysburg
