Editor’s note: Borough council members discussed the issue June 22 during a workshop meeting. President Jake Schindel urged an end to the sister-city relationship unless the South Dakota city drops the rebel flag. Instead, other council members agreed to direct staff to send an informational letter about the local borough’s use of symbols. The uncle of George Floyd, Selwyn Jones, was among Gettysburg, S.D. residents with whom Gettysburg, Pa. Borough Manager Charles Gable spoke. Floyd’s death in police custody has sparked nationwide protests. The letter was emailed Sunday and sent by regular mail Monday along with a borough flag and lapel pins bearing the borough seal, Gable said.

Greetings Mr. Mayor, City Council, and residents of Gettysburg, South Dakota – from your Sister City, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

Charles Gable is the manager of the Borough of Gettysburg. Contact him at cgable@gettysburgpa.gov.
